SPODDS Annual Meetings
Every year the students, faculty, and energy company representatives participate in the annual SPODDS meeting, which includes student presentations, field trips, and lecture/discussions about the state of the science and energy industry. For example, the SPODDS 2011 Annual Meeting was held in Monterey, California. We spent a day in the field examining the deep-water Carmelo Formation, which has been interpreted to represent the fill of an ancient submarine canyon incised into granitic basement. Recent meetings included: 2009 - Ouachitas, Arkansas; 2010 - La Jolla, California; 2011 - Monterey, California; 2012 - Ventura, California; 2013 - Davis, California; 2014 - Eugene, Oregon; 2015 - Death Valley, California, 2016 - Coastal California and San Luis Reservoir, 2017 - Coastal California and Stanford core workshop.
